The Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) is a long-term planning process required by the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund. The goal of the SCORP is to provide guidance on how the state should allocate its outdoor recreation resources. In order to do this, the Oklahoma Department of Tourism (ODOT) develops a statewide recreation plan every five years.
The most recent SCORP was completed in 2016 and included input from citizens, local government officials, and recreation organizations. One of the major goals of the 2016 SCORP is to increase connectivity between different recreation areas. This is why ODOT has been working on developing a network of recreational trails across the state.
Bethany, Oklahoma is home to one such trail. The SCIP (Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan) Bethany Recreational Trail is a 1.2-mile paved trail that runs along State Highway 74. The trailhead is located at the intersection of SW 15th Street and SH 74.
The Bethany Recreational Trail is open to pedestrians, bicyclists, and skaters. It is also handicap-accessible. There are benches located along the trail for people to take a break and enjoy the scenery. The Bethany Recreational Trail is a great place to get some exercise or enjoy a leisurely stroll with friends or family.
